“Digestive disorders are an interesting medical challenge. Their symptoms can be associated with other conditions, and there can be multiple issues or problems complicating the diagnosis. In addition, problems of the gastrointestinal tract require different kinds of treatment. This variety is part of why I was drawn to digestive medicine. As a medical specialty, it demands my diagnostic skills, my abilities as an endoscopist and my knowledge of treatments and medical management.

“But an even bigger factor in my decision to become a gastroenterologist is people. Helping people is why I became interested in medicine, and it’s the single-most motivating factor for me each day. I treat people, not diseases or disorders. This is also why it’s so important to create a close relationship with every person who trusts me with their digestive health. To be effective, I need to know you, to understand you, to earn your trust and be there when you need me. For me, this is as essential as the science that’s so important to quality outcomes.”
